How to compress image

Make image files smaller without making them look worse. Each format gets the encoder that suits it — JPEGs go through mozjpeg, PNGs through a palette pass, GIFs keep every frame, and SVGs are minified as text rather than turned into pixels.

Frequently asked questions

Will my images look worse?
At the recommended level, not noticeably — that setting exists to be the point where the file is much smaller and the picture is not visibly different at 100% zoom. Choose Most only when the file size matters more than the detail.
Do transparent PNGs stay transparent?
Yes. Transparency survives compression, and so does the animation in an animated GIF, including the timing of each frame.
What if a file cannot be made smaller?
Some images are already as small as they will go. Rather than hand you a bigger file, we return the original exactly as you uploaded it.
